Green pots the black to put dent into Bugle’s challenge

| On 13, Mar 2017

Matt Green’s excellent 40 clearance gave Bethel ‘A’ victory at Bugle ‘A’ to put a real dent in Bugle’s title challenge.

Earlier Paul Baron and Garry Stephens had defeated Gary Spencer and Paul Sturtridge to put Bethel two-up.

Andrew Best saw off Leon Collard to pull one back and after Green’s win, Ian Powell beat Geoff Hawken for the home team’s second point.

St Neot only took four players to St Blazey ‘A’ but won 3-2. Anthony Maddams lost to Mark Craddock in the opener but Steve Courts, with 41 and 33 breaks, followed by Darren Lock’s breaks of 36 and 32, put them ahead with Chris Perring’s win over Stewart Dewings getting the win with Mickey Meares’ walkover in the fifth St Blazey’s other point.

Due to romantic liaisons Tregonissey A’s game was put back to Wednesday night and they recorded a 4-1 win over Bugle ‘B’ to lead the table by seven points.

Jason Simmons beat Dave Runde in the first but Mark Stutridge replied seeing off Martin Knight but further wins for Jason Cocks, Barrie McIntosh, who had a fine 35, and Ryan Bilson saw them through.

With Tregonissey ‘B’ on a bye night there were replaced at the top of the Rees League by Mevagissey ‘D’ who beat Bethel ‘D’ 4-1.

Jason Pascoe battered Rich Lakeman in the opener for the away side, but wins for George Lory, Ian Latham and Neil Parker followed by a walkover for Mark Ashton leaves the Meva boys in a very good position as the season draws to a close.

Mevagissey ‘C’ upset the form book on Monday night by taking three points at Bethel ‘C’. Howard Brett beat Adrian Evans to start the evening off with Meva taking the lead thanks to Charlie Prynn and Nathan Shaw. Ben Stunnell levelled things up beating Matt Chesterfield on the black only for Joe Chesterfield to defeat Roger Smithson also on the black to put the evening to bed.

Caz Stephens got Treggy ‘C’ off to a good start beating Dave Vipond of Lerryn but victories for Terry Middleton, John Hancock, Graham Hoskin and Charles McMiram saw Lerryn record a 4-1 win whilst St Stephen ‘B’s good run continued with a fine 3-2 win at Gorran Haven.

Dad Terry and son Craig Nicholls, along with Darren Biggen put them 3-1 up after Paul Grimmett beat Rob Garside in the opener and it was Rob Bunney who took the home side’s second point defeating Josh Doherty.
